En Avant Ballet dancer Francesca Vezzani talks about the recent Sleeping Beauty Workshop
"From the moment I stepped into Karis's class one year ago, I straight away fell in love with her teaching style. Explaining carefully all the steps and positions, she transmits her passion and knowledge for Ballet to everyone in the class and then there's her contagious laughs.
I definitely didn't expect anything less when I chose to attend The Sleeping Beauty repertoire workshop in March! It was a great opportunity to put into practice all I have learnt throughout the past year and on the plus side, I got to dance a piece of a beautiful ballet repertoire . . .Aurora's Friends from Act 1 of The Royal Ballet's world famous production!
The class was full of 20 eager En Avant Ballet dancers all different ages, abilities and shapes and sizes but all together, we share the same love and passion for classical ballet. The workshop started with our usual warm up exercises at the barre, followed by centre work and jumps. Like always, the vibe in the class was fantastic and even though I had never met some of the ladies participating, we were all supporting and helping each other. Step by step, with patience and encouragement, Karis taught us the small piece of choreography and once it was completed, we couldn't get enough of dancing it. Over and over again! At some moments, I actually felt like I was on stage as one of Princess Aurora's friends! It was hard work (there was lots of jumps!) and I worked up a good sweat but it was incredibly rewarding at the same time. Once you get started, the music and movements take over and you just don’t want to stop!
I had an amazing time and for sure I will participate in every other workshop that she organises . . . and I shall bring a tutu as well, to make it even more real!
I can never thank you enough Karis for all your support, it is always a joy coming to your classes! You are truly inspirational."
